Shiyao Liu is an assistant professor of ISSCAD, an institution aiming at enhancing knowledge of practitioners and scholars from developing areas, with a joint appointment at the National School of Development at Peking University in Beijing. She holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics as well as a BS in Statistics from Peking University.
Shiyao works on political methodology (quantitative social sciences) and comparative political behavior. Recent work of her appeared in the Journal of Politics. She has also been awarded the Best Poster Award by the Society of Political Methodology in 2019, the PolMeth Europe-CCES Best Paper Award in 2022, and the Top Paper Award by the Political Communication Devision of the International Communication Association in 2023.
Professionally, Shiyao is an Associate Editor (Data) of China Economic Quarterly 《经济学》（季刊）, one of China's best economics journals, since Sep 2023. In recreation, She is an FAA private pilot (Single Engine Land Airplane).
